A Prayer for Tired Moms

Why didn’t anyone warn us that parenting was so tough before we had children?

Why didn’t anyone warn us that parenting was so tough before we had children?

It can be downright exhausting. All stages of motherhood bring their own level of weariness.

The infant and toddler stage is physically exhausting. The school-age stage is mentally exhausting, and the adolescent and teen years are emotionally exhausting.

What is a mother to do? There is only so much chocolate and coffee that we can consume in one day.

I think we need to remind ourselves that motherhood will not look perfect. It is going to be messy! We need to pray for God’s perfect strength during these refining moments. The enormous investment that we have before us can be daunting. Doing the dishes, the laundry, and taking care of boo-boos is just a small part of the big, beautiful picture!

I love the quote that is above my sink that talks about every word we speak, every dish scrubbed, every diaper changed, every spill cleaned that’s done out of a love for our Savior is a divine transformation from a chore into worship! These little humans that God has entrusted to us to nurture and grow shouldn’t be looked at as a burden, but a great delight! When we shift our perspective to the long term, we can see past the ordinary and mundane days.

We can protect and safeguard our children by covering them with the Word of God.

As mothers, we must bathe ourselves in God’s Word. It must, like a warm shower, flow into our minds and our hearts. There is so much junk out there. If we focused on all the evil and sin that could harm our children, we would be an anxious mess. Thank goodness that as we transfer our control into our Heavenly Father’s hands, he watches over them better than we could ever do.
Just as a seed grows into a plant, and the buds grow and flourish into a beautiful flower, we can’t rush the process of motherhood. Overwatering can hurt a plant, and so can trying to rush the spiritual growth in our children.

It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

We must have spiritual endurance and eyes that see as Jesus does. This is why it is important to make time to relax and unwind as moms. We need to take care of ourselves, so we can take care of the children God has given to us.

It takes unconditional love. Especially during the teenage years. Nasty attitudes make us want to react with a nasty attitude. Instead, we need to pour out love and kindness onto our hormonal teens! Jesus take the wheel!

Hard work during the younger years will produce fruit (in God’s timing, not our own). Have faith to know that He will bring the increase.

No matter what stage your children are at, stop what you are doing and look at them.

In your mind visualize them 20 years down the road. Are you imagining it? How will the life-giving words and actions you show them today impact their future? Although it may seem far away, it really isn’t. Time goes by so extremely fast. Our daily moments will impact the course of their future as adults. Yes, they will eventually have to make decisions for themselves, but now, we have the awesome privilege and responsibility to help shape and grow them for God’s glory.
No matter what stage of motherhood you are at, here is a prayer that you can lift up to God. I hope it brings you peace, as you lay over your control into God’s loving hands.

A Prayer For Tired Moms

Heavenly Father,

I am starving for holiness. As a deer pants for water, my soul longs after you! I know that my motherhood can only flourish when I am seeking you with my whole heart. The world promises so much, yet only brings destruction and heartache. May I seek you first in all I do!

I lift up my children to you. They are yours, Lord! I know that you have great plans for them and that you love them way more than even I do as their mother. This humbles my heart.

Being a mom is physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting at times. Give me rest that comes from surrendering to you. Give me a revival within my heart that comes from the touch of your Holy Spirit. Lord Jesus, touch me with your renewing hand!

May you supernaturally turn moments of my day that seem mundane, into glorious moments of worship. I want to see my children as a blessing, not a burden, a delight, not a duty.

Give me a heart that sees the long term, not just the temporary. May the investment I make today bring eternal rewards!

I pray for protection over them from the world. Give me wisdom and discernment to know what to let them partake in, and when to say no.

Help me to respond to my children with kindness, and not anger or resentment. Give me a heart of patient compassion.

Above all else, I pray for their eternal soul. May they come to know you personally as their Savior! May they grow in the knowledge of your Word and follow your leading throughout their life.

In Jesus’s Name,
Amen
