Meet Jovie, Our Summer Youth Intern
My name is Jovie Webbeking and I’m excited to announce that I will be the Youth Summer Intern here at West Side! I wanted to introduce myself so you could get to know me a little bit better.
A favorite Summer activity of mine is going to the beach with a good book for the afternoon. I also enjoy taking the time to be a tourist of Seattle, whether it be having a picnic at the UW arboretum or getting pumpkin cookies at Cinnamon Works in Pike Place!
Something that cheers me up like nothing else is taking the ferry and watching the sunset!
You may recognize me — I’ve been involved with West Side for awhile now. I was first introduced to West Side when I went to MDR (Memorial Day Retreat) when I was in the 6th grade and have gone every year since. My senior year of high school, I joined the Youth Group. It was then that I started occasionally playing flute at some of the early morning services. In 2022, the summer after my senior year, I joined the youth team that went to the DR! This past Spring, I volunteered and came to Youth Group on Sunday evenings to help. I’m super stoked to transition into leading Youth this Summer!
I am currently taking a gap year from college, which has invited in a lot of uncertainty. At the beginning of this journey, I had the following thought process... I can be running away from things, and I can be running to certain things, or in the midst of it all, I can be running towards God. I feel like this can be encapsulated in the song, Run to the Father, by Cody Carnes. It’s been challenging, yet beautiful to cling to God and his Word, when everything else around me seems to be changing. It’s a reminder of gentleness and love to see God working in various parts of my life, when sometimes all I want, are answers. It’s been wonderful to work with the youth and see God vibrantly work through their lives and into mine.
I want to end with some bible verses that have been leading me in my current season...
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” —2 Corinthians 12:9
“Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” —Matthew 6:33
Cheers!
